Online Store

Requirements

Our client wanted to create another sales channel other than the normal sales channel which it has created. Selling over the Internet was hit upon as an alternative. The requirement of the application program is that it must be able to run on cheap Intel based servers and on a cheap operating system. The program should ideally be fast and yet secure. The system would allow the client to track the orders. In order to reduce manual data entery, the system should also have an accounting and inventory control system and form part of the supply chain managmenet system for the company. All outlets in the city will use the application system to ask for replenishment of the stocks as well as locating particular SKU if there is a request by their customers.

Purchasing Management System

Requirements

Our client is a multinational company with subsidiaries in many countries. Altogether it has twenty eight offices and at least fifteen manufacturing plants. Since its beginning, the subsidiaries have been operating independently from each other due mainly to government regulations and market requirements. Since the barriers of globalizations are dropping, the company is exploring the possibility of becoming a global company instead of being a multi-domestic one.

As a multi-domestic company, most of its subsidiaries deploy their own ERP with some using SAP and others deploying Oracle ERP. Even the enterprise databases used by the subsidiaries are different from each others. Some were using Oracle and others were using DB2.

As a first step towards integration, the purchasing information of each manufacturing plants were to be integrated into a centralized database to be analyzed by the head office in order to plan centralized purchases in order to get bulk discount. The application solution must be web based so that all the subsidiaries will be able to access the purchasing information especially with regard supplier and the purchasing price.

One very important aspect of the application program is access rights and security. All the information is very sensitive and such information should not be made available to competitors and lower rank employees. It has been decided that the system will be opened to Purchasing Managers, General Managers and above.

Implementation

Nokia CC series of VPN boxes were deployed to ensure that all users logging in are genuine and authenticated. A Cisco router with PIX firewall were used to perform the routing and provide firewall protection.

The application program uses J2EE on Tomcat server. Users would just need to have their browsers to view the data on the server.
